A Myth in the Making (2022)
In the 1950s, Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung wrote a book (“Flying Saucers”) on the psychology behind the phenomenon of UFO sightings. In it, he looks into the fascination for inexplicable things seen in the skies, which, according to him, indicates deeply established needs and fears within humanity. He interpreted the rapidly increasing sightings in the 1950s as psychological projections of the ‘collective unconscious’, a term he coined to describe universal memories and experiences that all humans share, apart from their personal experiences.
With this idea in mind, A Myth in the Making explores how our vision of outer space and phenomena like UFO sightings reveal the ways in which the human mind connects to the cosmos. Questioning the boundaries between fact and fiction, the images are reflections of our subconscious desire to find meaning beyond ourselves and our surrounding world.
